| The 2009 Scholarship Winners are: $500 Dylan Fox, North Hollywood HS; $300 Thomas Wilson, Santa Susana HS; and $200 Kathryn Jones, Thousand Oaks HS. In addition to the scholarship winners, five additional Honorable Mention Awards were given. All eight students were honored at our 2009 Awards Dinner Meeting.

| The 2009 Awards Dinner Meeting will be held on Thursday June 11th in Chatsworth. Our guest speaker Dr. Paul Bevilaqua, Chief Engineer of Advanced Development Projects at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, will give a talk on "Inventing the Joint Strike Fighter". | Life in Extreme Environments Educator Conference January 24-25, 2009, at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, CA. All educators (including museum staff) and students in high school or above interested in Earth and space science, and exploration. The conference content is generally non-technical but does include some detailed scientific and engineering content. The objective of the conference is to tell the exciting tale of real-life exploration and new discovery in a way that will excite and inspire students. All day Saturday, January 24, and the morning of Sunday, January 25, 2009. Check-in begins at 8:00 am. For conference updates click here.

| San Fernando Pacific Chairman's Report by Dean Miller: The SFP Chapter has been active with dinner meetings, council monthly meetings, high school essays, and San Fernando Valley Engineers Council meetings. We have had very interesting speakers at our dinner meetings. Within the last two years we have had Dr Ghosh on the Mars Rovers, Dr Bocchieri on The World Trade Towers Disaster, Dr Scott Miller on The World of Secret Flight, and General Al Jurus on the SR-71. | The next meeting of the Enterprise Chapter of the AIAA Los Angeles Section is Tuesday, September 16th. The Speaker will be Jeff Greenberg, CEO of Tech Coast Works. He will speak on "Commercializing Your Technology". This presentation will show the entrepreneur how to navigate a series of transformations that must be completed to turn a concept into a business. | Upcoming meeting at the
Naval Postgraduate School on Aug 26-29 in Monterey, CA organized by the AIAA Homeland Security Program Committee, in association with the NPS and Marine Technology Society. Scheduled presentations by representatives from FEMA, the US Coast Guard, CPB A&M, private industries, and many more, will provide an overview of current Air, Space and Maritime systems/assets, and descriptions of how they are being tasked and employed. Mission Statement
The
non-profit American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the
principal society and voice serving the aerospace profession. Its primary
purpose is to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of aeronautics
and astronautics and to foster and promote the professionalism of those
engaged in these pursuits. Although founded and based in the United States,
AIAA is a global organization with nearly 30,000 individual professional
members, over 50 corporate members, thousands of customers worldwide, and
an active international outreach. AIAA is the U.S. representative on the
International Astronautical Federation and the International Council on
the Aeronautical Sciences.
